Light is one of the most important aspects of a home: in addition to its practical functions, it serves to generate feelings, is decisive for the decoration of spaces and has a direct effect on the thermal comfort of the home.
Ideas to take advantage of the natural light of your windows
Homes that do not have open spaces, tend to suffer from problems of luminosity. The light cannot flow through the house and spread evenly. A good premise is, try to locate in the same environment the so-called “day areas” (kitchen, dining room and living room). In this way, habitually isolated and dark environments, such as the kitchen, take advantage of the same space, light and environmental conditions as the living room (the area of the house that usually has better light).
Use of light colors
So that the natural light that enters by the windows slips by the ground, it is advisable that walls, floors and ceilings, are clear. This is achieved by obtaining a ‘plus’ of reflected light. The same happens with large structures of wood with much visual weight as beams, carbides and interdicted ones; and with furniture and upholstered elements.
Avoid obstructing windows with furniture
Do not place furniture in front of windows. Likewise, those that are located in the path of light, that are little bulky, low, with legs or that are made with translucent or transparent materials.
Replace partitions with glass enclosures
If you do not want to have blatantly open spaces, you can replace the usual building walls with glass enclosures. In this way, the light of a facade will add to the one that is captured by the wall of the bottom, compensating for the shadows that form in the deep spaces.
It should be remembered that, from 4.5 meters deep (depending on the height of the window lintel and the width of the room), the amount of natural light usually drops significantly.
Encourage the flow of light between rooms
There are alternative ways to bring natural light from one room to another. One option, for example, is to open interior windows or alcoves; or make the interior divisions with furniture, shelves or partition walls that do not occupy the entire space up to the ceiling. The translucent glass, printed or mat is ideal for light to pass while maintaining privacy in areas that require it.
Use of glass in doors
Replace your blind wooden doors, for models that include glass. The more prominence the glass has, the more light it will access to the home.
Choose the correct composition, shape and size of your windows
The design and location of the windows is not ballad, and can make the great difference in the luminosity of a house. It is advisable to seek the most favorable orientation, according to the climate and the place where the house is located. With a southern orientation, for example, constant lighting is received throughout the year.
Zincography composition of glass
The way that the windows have will also affect the amount of natural light that the space receives. A vertical window, for example, is effective to increase the distance to which light is introduced. With this form, it is also possible to provide different graduations of light throughout the day.
The position and quantity of windows is also important. If it is a single window, the light will be distributed better, if it is located in the center of the room. Instead, if installed at one end, it will minimize glare, which can be effective in very sunny and hot climates.
On the other hand, if you place the window on the outside of the wall, you will receive more light than if you install it on the inside.
To illuminate the ground and thus fill the shadow cones that form under the window, lower your sill. In this way you gain a more open visual angle. On the other hand, when designing the windows, try that the glass gains prominence in front of the profile. It is advisable to reduce the number of sheets and avoid excessive paneling.
